Before children, I lived for myself and my own needs and wants. I got married and learned to communicate and look out for my husband’s best interests. But when I had children, I started to become selfless. And that is not to say I lost my self identity, but rather I have become a place of comfort, home, and love for my family. Their needs come before mine. And I don’t mean having basic needs like using the restroom and shower, but yes, we do let them go first. I mean how you live your day. What do you do and why? Why is the big question.

I will never judge another mom for being a working mom. This world needs working moms; nurses, teachers, artists, rosary makers, cooks, and retail workers outside of the home, and in home too. They are very important roles. They too are homemakers. I am personally a stay-at-home mom because that’s how it has worked out in our family. We did not find daycare, nor have someone we knew to watch our newborn. So, I quit my job and held my children instead of leaving early mornings. Why? Why did I choose this?

In some families, it makes sense financially, and mentally for the mom to stay home. There are so many benefits the family receives when the mom stays home. It is a gift to the family just as much it is a gift for the husband to get up and work every day even on those days he is tired. It is all work. From sun up to sun down.
Why be a homemaker? Well, it is honestly the best job in the world and the most forming job in the world. We are literally making a home for our loved ones. Home is the whole point. Without home we are lost. Making a home with Christ at the center brings light to our soul and brings young children closer to God. Staying home I am able to be with my children and hear everything they have to say. And I personally understand what they are saying. This helps form their learning and continue growth.

Being a homemaker is a ministry. Motherhood is a ministry. Some of us are called to be this, and this alone is enough. It is enough for me. I didn’t continue my planned education after my Bachelors Degree. God had other plans for me. And they are so much better than I could have imagined. I also don’t know what God has planned for me once my kids are in school full time.
Why do we need homemakers?
Because our children and this world need us to be homemakers. We need homemakers like we need doctors. We need homemakers like we need retail store workers. We need moms and dads that work selflessly for their families. We need homes filled with God and His word. Homemakers are the backbone of children’s learning. Stay-at-home moms who are homemakers can find ways to work at home as well. Baking and selling sourdough and farm fresh harvests. Making clothes with your hands and selling. Babysitting other children in your home along side your own is beautiful work. Mothers who stay home and who are homemakers are valuable. Just as valuable as the strong women going to work on their twelve hour nursing shift. It’s not what we do its why we do it. That’s what brings us closer to Jesus. That’s why you should be a homemaker if God has called you to be.
